Shares first words since cancer bombshell

After weeks of speculation surrounding his health, former President Joe Biden has confirmed a diagnosis of prostate cancer, marking a poignant and sobering moment in American political life.

The diagnosis came last Friday, following a medical examination prompted by worsening urinary symptoms. Doctors discovered a small nodule on Biden’s prostate, which testing revealed to be a high-grade tumor. Classified as a Gleason score of 9 (Grade Group 5), the cancer is serious but hormone-sensitive—offering hope for effective treatment.

Biden, 82, addressed the public via X with a message of strength and gratitude: “Cancer touches us all. Like so many of you, Jill and I have learned that we are strongest in the broken places. Thank you for lifting us up with love and support.”

Since leaving office in January, Biden has faced mounting scrutiny about his age and health, especially after a debate performance against Donald Trump last June that drew sharp criticism and ultimately led to the end of his re-election bid.

Messages of support have poured in from across the political spectrum. Donald Trump shared on Truth Social: “Melania and I are saddened to hear about Joe Biden’s recent medical diagnosis. We extend our warmest and best wishes to Jill and the family, and we wish Joe a fast and successful recovery.”

Kamala Harris also voiced her support: “Joe is a fighter, and I know he will face this challenge with the same strength, resilience, and optimism that have always defined his life and leadership. We are hopeful for a full and speedy recovery.”

California Representative Ro Khanna, a former campaign surrogate, added on X: “Praying for @JoeBiden and his family to defeat the cancer he’s recently been diagnosed with. He and Jill have always been fighters and I am confident they will meet this challenge with grit and grace.”

Public figures from both sides of the aisle, including Meghan McCain and Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene, also expressed their condolences and shared how cancer has impacted their own lives and families.

Cancer is a deeply personal battle for Biden. After losing his son Beau to brain cancer in 2015, he spearheaded the Cancer Moonshot initiative, aiming to accelerate research and improve treatment access. Throughout his presidency, he remained a passionate advocate for cancer awareness, research, and care reform.

Prostate cancer is one of the most prevalent cancers among men, particularly older men. Outcomes depend heavily on early detection and the cancer’s progression at the time of diagnosis.

The Biden family is now consulting with medical professionals to determine the best course of treatment. Further updates are expected in the coming days.
